Why do some ecommerce stores make the sale and some don't? We look
at how some methods can kill your sales.
As more and more people take to the web to find products and
services many e-commerce stores fail because of mistakes that
could be easily avoided. Taking time by investing in the proper
approach and design to your ecommerce store can have benefits.
And next time you go on the web see where you think other stores
might go wrong. They may be doing some of the mistakes outlined
here:
Always make sure customers can contact you. Display your contact
information on every page of your website. Some may even print
the page, forward the page via e-mail, or pick up the phone.
All items offered for sale should include a picture, if not
multiple pictures. People like to touch and feel stuff before
they buy, but an ecommerce store does not offer this. Pictures
and movies offer the next best thing. Multiple pictures, diagrams,
schematics, blueprints, fact sheets, and dimensions all help the
shopper understand the item before they purchase. Describe your
products in detail. Web sites that do not attempt to describe
their products rarely get new customers and everyone knows that
a good salesman will always display his knowledge on a product
to get you to buy and so should you.
Always include pricing information. If you don't most customers
leave immediately. Plus, most shopping is done during non-business
hours and therefore, website's with instructions to "call
for a price quote" at midnight doesn't really work. Another
is that most of us conclude that because there are no prices listed,
they must be high prices, or else why wouldn't they list them?
Most customers are not willing to go through the extra effort
to determine the price—it's far easier to just move on to the
next website.
One mistake is when web sites do not include detailed lists of
competitive products. Savvy shoppers will shop around if necessary,
but if you provide all of the information they need to make their
decision, you will attract more shoppers and generate more sales.
Creating such deep content is tough. But it's easier for you to
dig up this information than your customers. Do them the favour
of providing them with the information they really need to make
the decision and close the deal—you will get results
